The Safety Professional is responsible for implementing and administering standardized EHS processes to ensure compliance to federal, state, provincial and local regulations and Corporate Policies and Procedures. This position will help achieve world class status and impact corporate savings through the elimination of environmental impacts, occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and improvement of production efficiency as well as safeguarding the health and safety of all employees.

The Safety Professional will focus on health and safety compliance, World Class Manufacturing (WCM) safety pillar activities, Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001), and health and safety improvement goals. The Safety Professional will report to the Plant EHS Lead and be responsible for and not limited to: Implementing EHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted; conducting regular audits of EHS processes and necessary follow up to ensure compliance and advising plant leadership and corporate EHS staff of findings; analyzing injury/illness experience including ergonomics, identifying/tracking injury correlation, determining root causes, implementing corrective action and communicating this information to plant leadership and corporate EHS; supporting new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that EHS design specifications and regulations are included; managing routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval; coordinate communication of EHS regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership; leading EHS projects to improve EHS key performance metrics; and supporting the implementation and maintenance of the plant's safety management system to meet OHSAS 18001 and WCM Safety Pillar requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and Local regulations and requirements
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in environmental, occupational health and safety or engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and / or other software
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
  • Safety related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH)
  • Work Experience in Automotive or Manufacturing
